If you can dip your copper go to Wal-Mart and buy a jug of PH minus powder.
Mix with warm water.  10# should do 50 gal or so of solution.
Use a plastic container
Makes copper a bright pink some scotch bright pad scrubbing may be
necessary.
It is sodium bisulphate which I think is the same as sparex but a lot
cheaper.

I don't know whether it will work on the flux, but a mild acid solution
generally works well for cleaning copper.  I mix vinegar, salt, and flour to
make a paste and slather it on cookware to clean off ordinary tarnish.  In
your case, muriatic acid might be simpler; a dilute solution would probably
work.
