Here in Nova Scotia, we're probably kinda like southern Louisiana.
Our province was very early off the mark with an
university/government/private partnership to create an ISP. Maybe
"first in Canada" in several aspects. But fast forward 15 years and
now there are whole communities of scattered rural dwelling all over
the province that don't have cable, DSL or wireless

The good news is that there is a government-funded project under way
to install wireless towers to service every last log cabin, fish shack
and isolated farmstead. It's running way behind schedule but -- ta-DA!
-- the tower in Italy Cross, 3 miles from me, is said to be in testing
mode and operational in January. Well, we'll see.

AFAICT, its service will not be slow. Nor will it be fast. Just
half-fast. I doubt it will be accordingly half-priced, though.

ObSmithing:

Just got one of those cute little lever-operated rivet forges with the
integral blower working. Making the lever affair was less trouble
than I expected. A single layer from an old flat belt that had
delaminated worked for the drive belt. Have to make a grate of some
kind. My son, who has recently bought a rural house with an
outbuilding can then have a forge (if he can bear to make room around
his Land Rover restoration project. :-) Got to keep him happy: He's a
tech and troubleshooter for the cableco that's installing the wireless
tower and I may need his help when they say, "We don't support Linux."
