Those saws do work, and most people who have them like them, as long
as they use them within the design parameters.
Its still basically a light, cheap, saw, not very rigid, and you cant
expect it to do the things a real cold saw, or swivel head bandsaw
would do.
But for 3/4" material, I think its a good step up from your abrasive
chopsaw.
The blades wear out, and they arent cheap. And you cant use it on the
range of steels that you can use a chopsaw on- I wouldnt try to cut
high carbon stuff with it.
For mild steel though, its fine.
Me, I prefer a 4x6 taiwan bandsaw- we run two of em in my shop, with
bi-metal blades, and find them much more flexible. You can cut bigger
material, you can leave it alone on large stuff, and, even better, you
can tilt them up and freehand cuts in all kinds of stuff- I have cut
curves in plate from 1/8" to 3/4" with mine, cut notches or miters
freehand to fit up round and square bar, cut slots in flat bar, and
much more.
About the same price, over here anyway, as the dry saw is.

I'm fed up with the dust and general nastiness of my abrasive wheel

and I have run out of blades.

I have been looking at one of these:

Won't take up much room, should make less dust, cleaner cuts and I can
always break out the 9" grinder if I need to cut bigger stuff.

Has anyone used one?

There's no mention of cutting solid bar. I think my normal max size is
about
3/4". Will it cope with that?

Any other opinions gratefully received.
