Brass and copper polishing.

20 odd years ago I bought 2 old copper/brass combo fire extinguishers 
for $2.00 each.  They were pretty cruddy.  I spent an afternoon 
polishing them and they were gleaming!  Something happened and I didn't 
finish the job and in  a few months they were tarnished again, so I 
repeated the process.  (I think I used Brasso but don't remember.)

This time I sprayed them with clear acrylic or equivalent.

They are still beautiful.

The point is ... if you go to the trouble to polish your cannon shells, 
put a clear coat on to keep them pretty.
