Don't try to get the whole thing hot and then wax it.  Put it in the
vice or on the bench, take the torch in one hand and a applicator rag,
very stiff brush (1-1/2" paint brush chopped off short) or whatever in
the other.  Smear on the wax and follow behind with the torch, flowing
the wax on with local heat.  Sounds clunky but goes more quickly than
it sounds.
