Thanks for all the thoughts on clear finishes.
I like the idea of warming before applying wax, the only thing is that  
warming a barstool takes a lot of propane...perhaps setting it out in the  
sun will work almost as well.
Would prefer not to have to do a huge amount of prep on these, so wax is  
looking better and better- next question is, why use turpentine? I've had  
consistently good results with plain wax...is it about getting into the  
cracks, or what?
