When I worked my first piece of wrought Iron. I found out real quick that if
you don't go square, octagon then round as you draw you end up with a torn
up mess. With mild steel it really is very forgiving. And you can draw from
any shape.

I'm not sure we're communicating.
I was taught, and I teach, that you take any bar to
square (though hex works too) and forge it as far as
necessary.  If you want it round, you THEN go to
octagonal then round.  That's what I mean by SOR.
