[TheForge] Hello and a question

I have two Peter Wright anvils, a 96# and a 146# that are at least 75
years old. I use the larger one most now but the smaller on served me
well for many years before I found the second one. The size of your work
will determine what size anvil will work best for you. Generally 100# to
140# is considered adequate for general work. If the 105# PW is in
usable shape and the price is right drag it home and use it until
something better comes along. A decent anvil will outlast its owner and
its next owner if properly cared for.

In some respects a decent anvil is better than money in the bank. A
dollar today will most likely be worth less next year and you are more
apt to spend it. The anvil is more likely to be worth more in a year but
you will have a greater attachment to it. It will also make you more
money than the interest the bank would have given you unless you use it
as a door stop
