everything except the borax was obtained from great lakes clay located
in carpentersville, illinois.
http://www.greatclay.com ( warning the site is really slow. )
the grog is a coarse grog, i do not remember the mesh.
the original refractory stood up for melting aluminum, brass, zinc, and
bronze. i never attempted to melt cast iron in these crucible furnaces.
i glazed the lining in the beginning with a mixture of ground glass,
fire clay, and borax.
1 quart of ground glass
1 pint of fire clay
1 cup of borax
with enough water for the consistency of thinned paint.
the glaze also stood up well.
overall, i have been pleased with the lining. i am open to other
possibilities and curious as to what other people have used for their
furnaces.
