A weed burner is not going to get your mouse hole up to welding temp. It
will get it to about 500 deg and use a lot of fuel in the process. If you
make a couple of Porter style burners and encase the horn in some fire brick
so you can get some reflected ir back on the metal you should be able to get
it to temp. But just sitting it the open air you be heating a lot of air
and not doing what you want to do. You want to make a small furnace around
the horn.
Good luck

One thing: if the mushroom has cracks and splits in it, you will
have
to get the tip to welding heat or forging will simply cause the cracks
to propagate. One thing you can do is gas weld the cracks shut. You
may not even need to use any filler Just establish a weld puddle to
"absorb" the cracked areas, and then reforge.
