Exactly. That's the idea. If you leave enough room between the air 
inlet and the bottom of the pot you could work the fire all day without 
having to remove the clinker. Every time you turn the "clinker breaker" 
of most fire pots you disturb the fire and lose fuel. If you are real 
lucky you get a few chunks of clinker. Then you start the process all 
over.
