Hmm.  Ok, that makes sense.  There is enough used fuel in the bottom of the
fire pot that the clinker shouldn't stick too badly.

I have a bar-b-q pit coal forge that I built and have a side blow, but the
clinker sticks mightily to the concrete.  I think that I need to make it
deeper.  Will do so next rebuild.
