Mike,

Thanks for all the great information about safety. Suonds like Kent
White's glasses and the Auralens units are pretty much the answer.
Expensive, yes, but a hundred bucks for long term vision is cheap. Did
I get that bottom line right?

The note below brings up another question worthy of your knowledge. I
have a cheap harbor freight auto darkening welding helmet. I wonder if
there is a difference in protection between that and the much more
expensive good-brand units. Mine has an adjustable response time and I
don't notice a lot of welder's flash after a day of welding (I just
became aware of the dangers of reflected light inside the helmet--that
I've gotten flash from). I accept that the cheap ones are nowhere near
as durable as the good ones, but I can buy and break 4 HF ones for the
cost of a good one. If the protection's no good, though, they're
worthless if they pay me to haul em away.
