[TheForge] To ring or not to ring[was anvil i d]

Chuck,
Disagreement is good, and I'm not for dead anvils. I'm also not for ringing
anvils, nor is any urban blacksmith wannabe; we all have neighbors and cops
to contend with. Loud noises are no more welcome to them than coal smoke.
Will you please discuss the several ways?
Mikey

Strongly disagree.
There are several ways to muffle the ring of an anvil but no way to put
decent hammer rebound in a dead anvil, short of a major rebuild. That's the
3rd deadly sin for a blacksmith, and an easy way to help ruin your
hammering arm.
Chuck
