Pete,
What you have just done with your mystery metal is the equivalent of picking
up a snake with a rattle on its tail to see if it is poisonous.
Good luck,

Just to double check...anyone know of valve disks of berillium
copper?
I got about 80# of big bronze valve disks from a junkyard that
gets stuff from Vandenburg AFB. Cut some slices off ( took a long
time to cut with a bandsaw) and it forges a little stiff, but
nicely enough. No zinc offgassing, heats to a medium red and
works without problems. unfluxed puddle forms a tough oxide skin.
Pretty stiff cold.
I'd guess it is silicon bronze but it seems a bit harder and not
as red and sticky.
Am i messing with trouble?...Pete F
