No big deal, really.  Get an appropriate thermocouple and hook it to a meter.  Error will be negligible.  If you want it more accurate, use a reference junction in an ice-water bath.  But it won't really make much difference.  

I have the capability of measuring such temperatures, but I STILL haven't enlarged the orifice (currently a #70) on my forge burner sufficiently to reach welding temperatures.  I have measured 2300 F in my forge using a thermocouple and meter (and conversion tables), but apparently this was just shy of welding temperature for the steel I was using..
