Or, Life in the SCA. He's talking about one of our SCA combat helms, btw,
that look something like this...

although usually not as pretty. One of the requirements is that there not be
anywhere a stick over a certain diameter can get inside the helm, amd often
instead of the T-opening on this one, there's a steel grid to protect the
face.
