Rudolf Diesel designed his engine to run on vegetable oil. In fact, the fuel he used was peanut oil. I like biodiesel myself...it doesn't dirty up your engine oil (no carbon) and actually acts as a lubricant for things like the valves.

Everybody be thinking/praying for me Friday...going under the knife. Surgery to fix my finger...a displaced tendon, which I can testify hurts like Hades and does nothing for my typing.

Yeah, Ries, I suspect you're right on the large scale. As someone else
pointed out, sometimes it takes more energy and money to make the fuel
than it generates. I have heard, though, that for the small-timer it
can be done somewhat economically and easily. I'm just looking to run
my tractor and maybe a truck. Haven't had a chance to look at the plans
to see if it's feasible.
