While just a little heavy in thickness, 3/16 would be better you have a 
great material for making strap hinges.  As a rule of thumb the length is 
2/3 of the width of the door. --- For reenactment ?? you say, well the same 
folks interested in reenactment might well be interested in "old time" 
hinges.
