Sash weights are mostly cast iron; the *wrought iron* ones, I would guess,
are "muck bar" which has to be refined before forging. John Butler did a
demo "steeling" a wrought iron round bar I found in the dump to make a
knife. It tried to fall apart 'til he refined it, then it worked really
well.

Can't say I'm all that experienced with wrought iron either, but I recall
Daryl Nelson forging with wrought window sash weights saying it was
constantly having to be forge welded togther because the strains were coarse
as spaghetti, and coming apart at the same time it was sticking together.
