The problem is I did do it myself
Burned one DVD-R on a Panasonic stand alone burner.
Finalized this disk (which makes it not rewritable and supposedly
compatible with other player).
This disk was then transferred to the hard drive of my computer and 10
copies were made one at a time which takes 30 minutes for the 6 hour
disk about 4.2mg.
The original DVD was then set aside as a master to make VHS copies or to
put back on the hard drive to make another set of 10 DVD copies. These
originals were made up to a year ago and did play all the way through.
Now these same masters do not play all the way. After about 1/2 to 3/4
the frame freezes like it would if there was a scratch but there is no
scratch on the back. If I play the chapter with fast forward it will
continue all the way through so the data is still there

I tried a different player with the same results.

Again these are disks that used to work so it was not faulty from the
beginning.

I have a complete set on DVD-RAM which is a rewritable disk that allows
me to transfer them back to the Panasonic hard drive. I can remake a
master DVD-R disk from this that will play but I don't want to find out
in a year they quite working also and have another 1000 or more disks
made and out with people made at me for selling them. I don't want to
have to stop going to blacksmith conventions because people want to do
me harm.

Are you trying to make DVD from the vhs? Or just make a copy of the
DVD'S? For making copies they now make DVD burns cheap under $500. Might
find something as low as $200. For transfer I just picked up a vid card
for my computer that should be able to do it was 250. Or there are
captures cards for less then 200. A DVD burner is about 100. So what I'm
saying or asking is why not do it yourself? The tools have become
