[TheForge] power hammer question

Roger,
I used that hammer at Tannehill to draw out a rr spike and make a plant
hanger. Clay used a round plate with braces instead of the flat plate he had
on the hammer he took to Madison. He said he was told by some engineers the
original design with the flat plate was not strong enough to hold the pivot
under constant pounding. The wheel is mounted backward and the round plate
is welded to the rim. The hammer has very good control and seems to work at
least as well as a 50# Little Giant. If there is any doubt or question, over
build- there are several forces at work which want to make things break-
weakest link syndrome- and if something breaks it might get thrown at you,
or worse, at me.
We are contemplating a hammer workshop in Tallahassee Fl in March or April.
The biggest expense is the 3'piece of 6" steel for the anvil. (Close to
$300). I've heard of using hydraulic rams, box car axles, etc for the
anvils. There are probably other items of steel shafting that would work.
Ron

Yes that is what they look like but Clay was changed how the motor
pivots.
Instead of it pivoting like in the picture which is basically up and
down his pivots left to right so the pulley is running on the tire tread
surface flatter.
No Clay said he started plans and had made too many revisions as he has
builds so no plans yet.
There were 20 built at BAM and at least one or more other workshops
maybe someone could help you out.
Clay sold the one he had with for $1995
He said they average about $1000 to build at workshop
I may build one this winter as something to do
He said you need at least a 6" round or square solid for the anvil which
was 3' tall.
They weight about 700#
