Thanks Justin & Charles,  I'd painted my 25# LG with Hammerite about 12
years ago and it's done great, grease and oil and cold and hot, so Iknow
it's not rocket science... just can't find hammerite anymore.  And, though
it worked well for the hammer, I've had mixed results in the past with it.
Perhaps my prep.

I hope to give these machines a fair bit of use, but not likely 'til the
project that never ends is over. mumblemumblemumblemumblemumble....

 Kevin, for thye quickie jobs I have I either use rustoleum, or an
 oil/alkalyd enamel in a paint gun.  I get machinery gray in gallons from
 the local paint store.   It holds up better than the spray bombs, is a
 lot cheaper too.     If it is a high use item that I care about, I paint
 it like a car since I have all the equipment -- sandblast, wipe it down
 with metal prep/wash (phosphuric acid solution) prime it with a two part
 epoxy metal primer, followed by topcoat.   This is of course a more
 expensive route ( recently replaced the two tone fender on my son's car
 -$32 for new fender, $200+ for the paint)  If you go to your local
 Sherwin Williams store, they have industrial coatings that are very
 reasonable and can advise you as to what will work best for you as well
 as explaining application   They have always been real helpful to me.
 They hae coatings designed for immersion, so a little humidity should be
 no big deal.   Regarding rust and paint in general, the biggest issue is
 proper surface preparation.  I would use the metal prep/wash in any event.
