When I had just Kaowool lining my forge I couldn't seem to get it very
hot. As soon as I replaced the inner layer with Durablanket (hope that's
the right name- a pal gave me some...) the effective temp went way up,
and the color of the inner surface of the forge went from light orange
to yellow.
When I painted on the plistix layer, it went to a white color and forge
welding became a snap. Things heat up much faster, too.
Odd thing is, sometimes I get a green flame and have to back off and let
it cool. Wonder what that could be about?

Can you find out what specific Durablanket product it was? Durablanket comes
in different weights and is made from more than one kind of material.
The forge is capable of going to white incandescence! Yummy, that sounds
good. How is the interior holding up with that kind of heat? You may find that the
green flame is some of your refractory burning. I have burnt up ITC #100 at
yellow/white heat.
