Using plywood would be your best bet. Fabricate a 1/2 inch plywood shallow box, use heavy pine or haardwood sides for support. Also, place wood blocks inside the box to support the large flat sides. Place item in box on top of heavy foam rubber cushions and corrugated cardboard. Use screws to fab the box and if possible have steel banding placed around the box. That outa do it.
