[TheForge] glasses, gloves, hearing protectors.

I use some very simple knit cotton gloves. I have 2 kinds, one that is made
for bakers, to replace hot pads. They look like a heavy terrycloth. The
others look like knitted gloves. The Japanese smiths we know use them a
lot, which is where I got the idea. They are about $1 apiece from
McMaster Carr and more from a hardware store. I use them for my left hand
when chasing and forging. I go through about a dozen pairs a year. You can
get the knit gloves in kevlar, but I've found it more expensive and
unnecessary.
I like my kevlar apron, but get whatever is cheaper.

I don't wear prescription glasses, but Bill uses an older pair of tinted
prescription glasses for studio work. Sometimes he wears a big chunky pair
of safety glasses over his smaller prescription glasses, which seems to
work. Whenever he gets new glasses, the old ones are retired to studio
work. You still run the risk of sparks or grinder grit in your eyes.
