        Bob,  There was a workshop in Vermont a couple years ago and a
fellow had a
power hammer hooked up to an old truck transmission.  Cheaper than a speed
rheostat and it was another fellows way to slow it down a bit.

        I've found a good working clutch and a decent brake on a Little
Giant make all the difference in getting some control on them.
