Thankyou Michael..that's just what i wanted.

Andy: this is a horizontal metal cutting saw and has  3 guide bearings 
instead of blocks, but, as you say..pretty similar mechanisms.

Rowland: gosh..we're  darn near saw-buddies!  That aside..thank you for 
the info..it's about what with the smaller saws. No, there is no 
reminant of the original brushes left...thought i'd fake it with  
worn-short wire wheel set on the diagonal on an axle just above the 
bottom pulley.

Last, in the realm of  of perhaps dumb ideas ( Linus Pauling said that 
one needed to have a lot of ideas, cause most of them would be 
wrong).........I want to convert this saw so that I can also use it 
upright  with a clamp on table. It'll involve some sort of quick 
disconnect for the hydraulic cyl   and a  vertical stop to hold the  
swinging part.
Anyone inclined to discourage me on this?.....don't shove getting in 
line here.................Pete F
