Yes, but only in the winter. I preheat surface with a small piece of  �" 
plate about  5" square.  If it is going to be bitterly cold, I also have 
a narrow box that sits over anvil (open side down) with a light bulb in 
it that keeps the chill off, but does not really make the surface warm.
