Thanks Bob,
as I've been thinking about my own question, I recall my mom doing an
antiquing thing with furniture back 40 years ago where she'd paint a light
color and let it dry. Then paint with another type that she'd wipe off,
leaving the second, typically darker color, behing. I'll have to aske how
she did that. But the soapstone will do for now. Except for the pieces
that are still predominantly polished... maybe graphite?
