Will it operate with the shaft vertical?  If so:

Mount a cup-type grinding stone on it.  Attach a pair of rollers on
either side.  Mount it on a pair of horizontal rails.  Attach rails to
a frame with adjuster screw so that the rails can be leveled and
raised or lowered an inch or do.  Now you have a nice surface grinder.

Heh.  Just spinning off my thinking about how to get the badly mungled
anvil of my A&O hammer tidied up.
