[TheForge] auctions - New Orleans

Jim,
The operative words are"where is as is". and "Absolute Auction".
This means that if the item is physically present during the time of the
auction it will be sold if it has an item # on it.
If they withdraw an item just before the sale starts they will announce the
withdrawn items and everything else will be sold, if there is at least one
bidder.
If you see an item you really want with a high # it sometimes pays to leave
the auction and return a few hrs later when most of the crowd has thinned
out.

I have discovered a whole sub-culture of folks who go to heavy machinery and
equipment auctions just to play with the machines.
If you're a registered bidder, you are allowed to put the machines thru
their paces, to see what works or doesn't work.

I started to get a little suspicious when I would see machines out of normal
attitude, like a big Cat bulldozer stalled with its blade dug into the
ground and the tracks partially lifted off the ground.
I'm now a rabid convert, messing around with the best of them.
Chuck
