All,
Agincourt had a few questions about my screwpress and in responding I
realized there may be others interested so I cc'd to the list in the hopes I
may find out more. Thanks
Agi',
Here's the vital statistics:
base of the C frame is 17x20
height of C frame is 30", to top of flywheel/screw down is 34.5"
work table is 7.5x13" with a 4" hole in the center
with no tooling the throat is 2.75" screw closed, 7" screw open
screw travel is 2.125 revolutions with 2" travel/revolution
Looking at the machine, on the left side in the area of the arch in an area
about 4x4" is cast:
PCA 1
No. 1
SCREW PRESS
AMERICAN CAN CO.
MAHINERY DEPT.
CHICAGO ILL.
The PCA 1 could be PCR and the 1 is vague, more imagined than real. Might
show up better if I scraped the paint a bit, but I think it's more likely a
flaw in the casting.
There seems to be only the original paint on it, kind of that institurional
khaki green color.
I would imagine it's likely early last century, not likely 19th, but who
knows.
I have a friend with a digital camera and if I can get his lazy butt (and
you know who you are Bob)to stop by one day, I'll let you know and send you
a picture. If you know or find out anything about this chunk of metal, let
me know, too. Thanks for your interest.
Regards, Kevin
