What I've done is forge to a square taper and then I take a hot cut and
fuller a narrow groove down the center of each flat as long as the threads
will be, and then hot twist to achieve the correct pitch. By fullering the
narrow groove down the center of each flat before twisting it allows the
bottom of each thread to come to a sharp peak making a more effective thread
