I'm trying to find my link to the Old Hudson Bay Company post of Fort
Steele. They had a nice replica of a portable forge they used. Remember
that most of the metal tools would have to be brought with them and the
extra would be made on site. The forge consisted of a metal tube with a
holes punched/drilled into it to act as the tuyeure(sp) and plug one end. A
wooden box would be made for the tube to sit in and packed with river clay.
A bellows was made on site. When they had to move, dig out the tube from
the clay/wood box and discard the box. Next worksite, build a new box.

Subject: [TheForge] Historical type Forge
I am wanting to build a portable forge that would be very close to a correct
type used in pre-1840 time period.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the plans for such a set
up?
What I will be using this for is for demonstrations for our boys ministry
(Royal Rangers / FCF) to demonstrate how things were made by hand during
this time period.
All help is appreciated and wanted.
