[TheForge] weld question

Dan -

In this particular case I needed the extra length from stretching the 3/4" to
the half-round profile.
This was a prototype requested on very short order.
I was lucky I even had the two pieces of 3/4" on hand as it was, and no time to
go out and get any new stock of any size.
Once the design is all worked out I should have time to consider the best
all-around method(s) to make this thing work, and the time to get the materials
needed.

Ya'll don't get me wrong. I respect (and practice) the old methods.
I hot cut when I can ( vs chop saw ). I even teach forge welding.
My hero/mentor is Peter Ross. And I do traditional when the customer
request.
I do disagree w/ the " pass off as iron work" statment by Bob. It is still
iron work,
(post 1944 ), and has its' market. An elec. weld  MAY not deminish the
quality of
the piece.  ALWAYS do quality work. The best that you can do. ( will it be
better the next time you do it?)
Then do it over, til it is the best.
Note: Rackers, you could vise it up and mill off half the dia.!  Then it
wouldn't be arch welded.
