That would certainly work, however it may not be the best; if you attach
the anvil securely to the stump, you get the mass of the stump for free in
the physics of hitting iron with hammers.

I have my anvil attached to a stump with big "staples" I made out of 1/4"
square 1018 stock.  Tines are about 6 inches long.  Removal: hacksaw. =)
