[TheForge] twisted wire websites?

Metalwork and Enamelling by Herbert Maryon has pictures and construction 
details for 72 different twist patterns. He's working in silver at a 
smaller scale than us, but many of them translate to iron just fine. 
I've seen Rod Pickett make stair rail components in one of these twists 
out of 2" stock (hollow). The book is highly recommended if you have any 
interest in jewelery techniques. It is written by the restorer 
responsible for much of the reconstruction of the Sutton Hoo stuff.
