While we're onto confessions:
Early on I made some tentstakes out rebar and I quenched'em....They shatterd
when I hit em! I didn't understand why back then so I could be forgiven for not
knowing about hardening, but now I should know better.....right?....At an SCA
Event last summer, a lady asked why the fancy twisted fork was $15 while a
simple (though shiny) fork was $50. I explained that the $50 one was my stupid
fork. I never sell it, but I always keep it around as a reminder.
I was making some small carving chisels out of a fairly expensive piece of
drill rod. I put it down and proceeded to make some hotdog forks for an SCA
event. When I went back to making the chisels, I couldn't find the drill
rod?!? I had made one really hard (and expensive) hotdog fork!! I keep it in
the shop to remind me to alway mark my material!!
I keep a color code in my shop based on carbon content and all non-1018 gets
marked with a color according to the chart the moment it comes in the shop!
