[TheForge] Air Hammer Slides.....

Ahh. yes I too have the over engineering affliction since that's what I do
all day long. The Cam followers I have utilize a shoulder, so only 6 are
required 4 back and two front the side to side play is eliminated by the
shoulder. I figured on a piece of 1" tool steel for the track, and just
surface grind the edges, and the two faces. At about 40RC it ought to hold
up for many years. The only draw back, is that it probably needs to be
bolted on, instead of welded to prevent warping, and for replaceability. I
always look at efficiency of design as well as functionality. Two of the
hammers I have built over the years, will run from as little as 5 cfm. The
key is reducing friction, thereby reducing required lifting capacity and air
cylinder size.

life, with very little if any resistance? They come in all sizes and
shapes, and most are complete with grease zerks.

cylinder to be mounted on the let like a standard punch type hydraulic
press, the center will have a moving beam driver by two 3.5" hydraulic
cylinders so it can be used for shearing, and sheet metal forming as well as
die cutting work, and making forging dies. The single cylinder will be a 7"
Diameter by 18" extend with an exertion force of about 57 tons...
Guaranteed to break the press I think.
