I built a small kinyon style hammer and had brass for guides to begin with 
and have since switched to UHMW and swear by it.I have had no problems with 
the stuff or my hammer guides since its installation.I had a problem with the 
brass in very cold temps but have had no problem with the uhmw.Cold or hot it 
works great and any future hammer I build will have it
