Just go to every scrap yard in your area until you find what you want, at
some point in their existance they have probably all had something suitable,
sometimes engineering shops have large stock lying around too, I went to one
place to get my Kinyon anvil cut and machined and they had a lot 5" round
sitting on a rack, cheap too, and they cut a piece off for me which most
scrap yards wouldnt. Probably the larger the scrap yard, the better your
chances, I had been to a few with no luck then bingo a large yard that had a
heap of suitable anvils. Remember you can vary the size stock and height of
the anvil in a few ways to use whatever you find at the scrapyard, smaller
stock bunched together works and you can sit or stand at your hammer. I used
2 pieces of 8" square side by side, cut exactly the same height and mating
faces were machined for a perfect fit (mightve been overkill but Im happy)
and I sit at my hammer which is great, I can stand if I like but I have a
adjustable height stool on castors and its really convenient.
