[TheForge] warped 1" plate table

Rick, I've seen usable pieces off back roads and bridge plates with
short support spans, many of the plates that cover something like a 4-8 foot
span unsupported will have a curve from the truck traffic. It will be luck
of the draw.
I'll keep my eyes open for a piece of straight plate, but I've also
been looking for six months now as Ian and Eric are also after tables. If
enough people want tables like the workshop I did last time when we did five
at once........it's just as easy to go new, cut to size out of large sheets
with the track torch and make them all in a day.
If you find a real large stash of plate, let me know - as I'd get
some for those fellows too if you find extra at the place you get yours.
The main thing is there is a real short supply of clean, straight
used plate(from my searching). I have to pay 19-32 for used, and 40-50 for
new......so I don't make it a point to spend a lot of time looking. It
either comes or I get the plate new when tired of waiting.
Tools sound like a nice investment. I use the double horn bick
anvil I have almost more than my regular anvil..........that is one you will
be glad you purchased for sure. I don't find I need a fly press as I have
a hydraulic press. The die filer is something I have little experience
with. Dave Court has one, but I rarely see him use it..........but he
claims it's really handy on certain jobs. I picked up a nibbler for cutting
sheet metal, and all I have left to do is hook up the motor. We'll see how
that works out.
