[TheForge] Anvil Question

I also have a very nice 200# HB with the tail broken off at the hardy =
hole. There is on "leg" left sticking out the back, which has turned =
out to be quite an asset for smaller items.

I don't know that HBs have any particular weakness in this way. The =
fact is, I've seen anvils abused in all manner of ways. People tend to =
regard them as indestructible, and they are not. I've witnessed people =
wedging things into the hardy holes of anvils in ways that had me =
convinced the tails would break off. Given this, it's not so surprising =
to find some fine old anvils in the condition they are in. However it =
is nice to know that they can be restored to good working condition.

If you don't have to have the hardy hole, I might suggest you just leave =
it as it is. My HB is absolitely perfect except for the broken tail. =
Still serves as a fine anvil.

Subject: [TheForge] Anvil Question

I have recently acquired a broken Hay-Budden anvil. The tail was
broken off and is gone. Postman mentions in his book that he has one
broken the same way. My questions, is this something unique to
Hay-Buddens? And has any one on the list repaired one broken like this
and how did you go about doing it?

Thanks in advance.
John C.
