to be flush with the door face or do you want it to be proud of the

The door was designed by the architect and his idea is to lay the copper
on the face of the door, no inlay.  Door has already been built  by
another shop and will be at my shop soon.  The rest of the woodwork
surrounding the door will be installed later and I will clad it with
copper on site.      

"Anything done on or to the copper besides the brown finish?"

Well we want it to stay brown so was considering some sort of clear coat,
I guess this is question # 4.  Do I need a clear finish to preserve the
dark brown?
