The real problem (in decorative things like bumpers)  is not the chrome but the
nickel. What you see on a "chrome" bumper is nickel. Chrome is applied over the
nickel a few ATOMS thick for protection. You actually see right through it to
the heavy nickel plating. Did I mention there is copper under that? Chrome
plated shafting on the other hand has a heavy chrome plating.
