Big - bigger is better for flow and it acts as a storage reservoir.
Run the main line as a loop so you don't have a pressure drop at the
end of the line.
Slope the line downhill to a drain valve at the end.
 Take your droppers off the top of the main line so it keeps the water
out.
 You can use copper pipe, which is easy to find and work with - no
threading. Don't use PVC pipe.
