To All,
I have been a Nikon fan for a long time. I recently jumped into the digital
age with a Minolta DiMage 5. It comes highly rated and is always compared
favorably to the CoolPix. My first 35 mm was a Minolta so I did not feel bad
about the switch. After spending a lot of time on-line searching out all the
specs, reviews and such, I figured out a factor that seems to be a good first
cut. You take the mega-pixels times the optical zoom and divide that number
into the selling price. It's sort of the biggest bang for the buck thing.
From there you have to look at the details of what you want to do. The
Minolta came out on top. The Nikon seemed a little overpriced and the Sony's
were obscene. I had Santa deliver my DiMage from Adorama in NYC. They were
$75 higher than the best price on the net but the feedback on the 10 sites
lower priced than Adorama was viciously negative so be careful.
I have not played with printing many images yet. I was a resolution and
acutance freak in my 35 mm B&W days so I must temper my expectations a little
bit. Nikkor lenses with Pan-X and Rodinal will spoil you in a hurry. I am
thrilled just the same.
Seek free advice from users and buds and accept it at face value.

I am on the cusp of buying a digital camera and have been searching on line.
I
am partial to Nikon and am looking the hardest at their 'Cool Pix 885'.
Does anyone have this camera? How do you like it? Why did you buy it and
not
the 'Cool Pix 995'? Anyone got the 995? Why that one? Are you happy with
it?
Anyone else out there with a digital camera they wish they would NOT have
gotten?
Thanks for your input,
Roger Olsen
