	"Varnish" covers a lot of different compounds.  I assume
since it was a boat, you were using Marine Spar Varnish?  Some of
the plastics work better, even over teak, but they don't have that
same golden shine you get from Spar.  But they do last quite a bit
longer exposed to the elements.  And the "new" epoxy based stuff is
next to indestructable.
