My first forge was 12x18" outside, with 2" insulation and a single
burner similar to what you describe, Jacques. It worked ok; more scale
than it should have had (which I could probably have fixed now), and
noisier than a naturally aspriated forge. Anyway, my point is that you
probably have enough burner if you brick up both ends, just leaving a
gap for you work.
I think this is a good size for a single forge. It is long enough for
twists, and big enough for most work without being so huge it consumes
too much gas and takes forever to heat. All relative, of course.
I currently use two forges, both with 2" insulation. One is about 11x15"
outside with one burner. The other is 14x24" with three burners (all
simple Reil burners). I use the little one more than the big one.
